Alvaro Quiros sealed a one-shot victory over local favourite Charl Schwartzel in the Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek in South Africa on Sunday.
Schwartzel led by two strokes going into the final round but saw his hopes of victory disappear when he found the water with his second shot on the 18th.
Playing just his fourth European Tour event, Spaniard Quiros, 23, fired a superb 67 to end the event on 13 under.
England's Lee Westwood carded a disappointing 73 to finish in third.
Westwood had shared the lead at one stage of the final round but lost his momentum during the final stages.
Compatriot Ross Fisher was fourth after a 70 while Mark Pilkington, who was tied for second with Westwood after round three, was undone by three successive double bogeys between the 7th and 9th holes.

Now I'm king for the week

He eventually finished seventh after a 75 and was one place ahead of South African Ernie Els, who carded 69 for the final round.
Quiros birdied all the par-fives as he overturned a four-shot advantage held by Schwartzel going into the last day.
"At the start of play I didn't think I had a chance, as I was four shots behind Schwartzel and he's a very good young player," said Quiros.
"I had a little bit of luck but I also played well - especially the par-fives."

He added: "(On the 18th) I had a long putt and thought I needed it to sink it for an eagle to avoid a play-off.
"Well, I nearly did. But then Charl hit in the water and missed his birdie that would have tied me. Now I'm king for the week."
