Charl Schwartzel stayed on track to collect a second Dunhill Championship by going two shots ahead of the pack at Leopard Creek, South Africa.
The 22-year-old mixed five birdies and an eagle with three bogeys to card a third straight 68 and move to 12 under.
Welshman Mark Pilkington made a massive move as his seven-under round of 65 took him second alongside Lee Westwood.
English duo Ross Fisher and Oliver Wilson are tied for seventh, with local hero Ernie Els three shots adrift.
Rookie Oliver Fisher saw his charge fall away when he carded a disastrous 77 to slide from joint 11th to joint 54th.
Schwartzel made another strong start to his round, opening with three birdies and a eagle in his first six holes.
But a run of three bogeys in four holes around the turn and strong charges from the rest of the field reduced his six-shot lead.
"It was a bit of an up and down day," said Schwartzel, who won the tournament in 2004 and finished second in 2005.
"I started even better than the other days. But then I had those bogeys in the middle. I didn't hit bad shots for those bogeys, they just all came up short."
