Often called the "greatest par five in Ireland", this double dogleg hole - stroke index two - seems perfect for Ryder Cup action.
The contoured green is set across the river and it has been redesigned to make it a larger, more attractive target.
Only a big drive brings it within range, however, and if laying up control of spin then becomes all-important.
YOUR K CLUB EXPERIENCES AND COMMENTS
One of the most challenging holes on the course. The layout is majestic, fine mature trees along the fairway, wonderful species of plants and flowers and the glorious river Liffey flowing towards Straffan Bridge. The green strategically positioned on an island in the river.
My abiding memory is having the pleasure of watching Tiger Woods play the hole off the blue markers during his first visit to the K Club, a number of years ago, prior to competing in the Open.
In the course of our usual Saturday morning game we got word that Tiger and Mark O'Meara were playing the course. The fourball was immediately abandoned and we were fortunate to walk the course with our esteemed guests.
Tiger hit a superb tee shot hugging the left side of the fairway. He then played a spectacular second shot cruising over the river to a few feet from the pin, leaving us mortals in awe. It was the best shot I have ever seen played on this hole. Victor Blake, K Club member
On the same day my golf trolley rolled into the lake on the 15th, Aidan Hampson, a guest of the captain, backed up from his ball on the green to get a better line on his putt and backed into the Liffey, much to the amusement of his partners who fell around the place and never moved a muscle to rescue him.
Fortunately, he was a very able swimmer. Later the captain, Liam Lacey, remarked it was a pity I didn't wait one hole more to put my clubs in as Aidan could have easily tossed them out.
