American captain Tom Lehman describes this as "a great tee shot, a great way to get the Ryder Cup underway."
Despite being protected by trees down the right, a lake on the left and, of course, first-tee nerves, this hole presents a great chance for an early birdie, particularly downwind.
The water also cuts across the fairway but is really only a consideration for the longer hitters at the Ryder Cup and for those - on non-Ryder Cup weeks - that have driven out of position.
The green, which has a narrow entrance, is set at a slight angle but holds no particular terrors.
YOUR K CLUB EXPERIENCES AND COMMENTS
Fabulous opening hole. Trouble all down the right with little gaps to give you courage to take the ultimate shot on. Rarely comes off, though, but nothing that a 30ft tramliner can't resolve.
