Stenson wins play-off at first extra hole
Henrik Stenson won a three-man play-off to claim the BMW International Open in Munich, with a raft of his Ryder Cup team-mates running him close.
After finishing on 15 under, Stenson eagled the first extra hole to edge out Padraig Harrington and Retief Goosen.
Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam will have been thrilled to see Colin Montgomerie, David Howell and Luke Donald tucked in behind with the event three weeks away.
Jose Maria Olazabal and Paul McGinley were earlier confirmed in the team.
There was drama at the end of regulation play as Harrington chipped out of a bunker to 10 feet to give himself a birdie shot to win it.
But his putt just went past the left edge of the hole, and Howell then missed from less than two feet when he seemed certain of making it a four-way play-off.
Stenson's approach to the 18th, the first play-off hole, landed in the left-hand rough, but instead of staying there kicked down towards the flag.
While Harrington and Goosen both made birdie, the Swede knocked his eagle putt down for victory.
"I tugged it a little bit, but sometimes you need the right bounces," he said. "It feels great and I'm very happy - it's been a while since I was up in contention."
Luke Donald and Colin Montgomerie were joint sixth, Montgomerie after taking a private jet on Saturday night for a stage appearance with the Ryder Cup at the Robbie Williams concert in Glasgow.
