Wilson failed to get his defence off the ground at Royal Birkdale

Stuart Wilson's bid to become the first player to defend his British Amateur Championship title came to an abrupt end in the first round of matchplay.
The 27-year-old, who only just scraped through qualifying, lost 5&4 to Welshman James Williams.
The heavy defeat meant Wilson failed to survive the halfway cut at the Royal Birkdale course.
Two-time champion Gary Wolstenholme also had a tough time but recovered to beat Mark Halliday by a single hole.
Halliday had led by two with seven to play, but bogeyed the next three and then, after taking the 15th with a birdie, three-putted the next.
Wolstenholme the chipped to nine feet to go through to the last 32.
