Paul Casey will be an exciting addition to the European team after romping up the rankings since turning pro in 2000.

The Englishman played in Great Britain and Ireland's victorious Walker Cup side in 1999 and has appeared in two Seve Trophy matches.

The 2001 Rookie of the Year has won three times in Europe and was sixth on the Order of Merit in 2003.

He rose to prominence as a star US college golfer in Arizona, breaking several records held by Tiger Woods.

He became the first player to win the prestigious collegiate Pac-10 Championship three straight times and also broke Masters champion Phil Mickelson's scoring average for Arizona State University.

Casey is capable of igniting a tournament with bursts of low-scoring and could be a vital weapon in Bernhard Langer's armoury, especially in the fourballs.

He has been second twice this season and was sixth on his debut at the Masters.

Did you know? In US College days, Paul Casey broke Tiger Woods' scoring record in winning the prestigious 2000 Pac-10 Championship and bettered Phil Mickleson's scoring record at Arizona State University.
