Colin Montgomerie believes the Open could be the time he finally breaks his poor run in the Majors.
The Scot has habitually underachieved at the event and arrived at Royal Troon as an 80-1 bet for victory.
He told BBC Radio Five Live: "It's good odds considering Greece were 80-1 [at Euro 2004]. It seems to be the year of the underdogs so we'll see."
Montgomerie's Open ambitions get under way at 0858 BST on Thursday, along with Dane Thomas Bjorn.
"I've overachieved in my career but underachieved at the Open," said Montgomerie.
"It's always come at the wrong time for me. I've usually had two very tough weeks beforehand - the Irish and Scottish Opens.
"I used to win at least one of those and that took a lot out of me. Then there was nothing much left in the tank to win the Open.
"I haven't won either of them this year, which has given me a little bit more time to concentrate on this tournament."
Punters may have picked up on Montgomorie's words as his odds were halved to 40-1 later on Wednesday.
