Annika Sorenstam moved one shot clear of the field with a 67 in the second round of the LPGA Championship in Delaware on Saturday.
The defending champion and world number one made four straight birdies on the back nine at the Du Pont Country Club to finish on seven under.
American Juli Inkster and Filipino first-round leader Jennifer Rosales trail by a stroke.
A washout on Friday means the final 36 holes will be completed on Sunday.
Sorenstam said: "I got off to a great start on the back nine. I'm very pleased
with my round.
"I'm happy the way I'm striking the ball, I'm happy with my putting. It's just a matter of going out there and enjoying it."
And with 36 holes to get through on Sunday, the Swede admitted: "It's going to be a long day. It's going to be long for everyone.
"I hope conditions are going to be good. I'm just going to go out and do my best. I feel like I'm in good shape.
"That's not going to worry me. It also depends on how the other players play."
