Wie handed US Open entry
Michelle Wie
Wie has just completed ninth grade
American Michelle Wie has become the first amateur to be given a free pass to the US Women's Open in July.

"She is an exceptional talent and has proven herself against the best players in the world," said Jeanne Myers, chairman of the USGA Women's Committee.

The 14-year-old made the lowest score by a female in PGA Tour history at January's Sony Open and has finished in the top 20 in three 2004 LPGA events.

Wie will also represent the United States in June's Curtis Cup in England.
