1200: With just over an hour to go before the first ball is struck, the excitement is mounting at Oakland Hills. The players arrive at the course in the dark of a Detroit dawn ready for the 0810 local time tee-off.
1225: Tiger Woods heads straight to the range sporting grey slacks, a grey tank-top and a blue-and-white stripey t-shirt. Europe are wearing dark blue trousers, navy sleeveless pullovers and more of a check-style shirt.
Colin Montgomerie says victory in the first match against Woods and Mickelson is "worth two points".
1240: US captain Hal Sutton is wearing a huge black cowboy hat, given to him by his team's caddies.
1245: The first tee is a hive of activity with the grandstand behind it packed and throngs of people milling about expectantly.
1300: An air of nervous anticipation sweeps across the course as the first four players approach the first tee. The weather is fairly cool with a gentle breeze but it is still early.
1310: Colin Montgomerie spanks his opening drive into the right bunker, while Padraig Harrington puts his into the left bunker. America's Phil Mickelson also drags his drive into the left rough and Tiger Woods goes even further left. None of the four finds the fairway.
1317: Tiger Woods plays his second shot first and finds the middle of the green. Colin Montgomerie splashes out of the right bunker to within 10 feet of the pin.
Padraig Harrington hits his bunker shot onto the green just past his partner's while Phil Mickelson plays out from under the trees on the left and also finds the heart of the green.
1321: EUROPE WIN HOLE.
Woods/Mick'son v M'gomerie/H'ington 1 up after one hole.
Tiger Woods is first to putt from at least 35 feet away and rolls it to within about six feet. His partner Phil Mickelson putts next but leaves it short on an undulation before the pin. Mickelson still has the honour and strokes it to a couple of feet and marks it, just in case.
Europe's Padraig Harrington is up next and rolls it to inches for a par four. Colin Montgomerie goes for the birdie and gets it to win the first hole.
1330: Europe's Miguel Angel Jimenez is the only one of the first eight players to find the fairway down the first hole.
1334: On the second hole, Phil Mickelson again finds the left rough and leaves his second in the left bunker, while Tiger Woods puts his approach through the green. Europe's Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington find the putting surface in two at the par five.
1338: Ireland's Paul McGinley finds the fairway with his drive at the first as partner Luke Donald catches the left rough. Americans Chris Riley and Stewart Cink also place their balls on the cut area.
1344: Darren Clarke and Miguel Angel Jimenez halve the first hole in fours against Davis Love and Chad Campbell.
1346: Both teams share birdie fours in the first group on the par-five second hole.
1350: Ireland's Padraig Harrington hits his drive to three feet on the short third as American Phil Mickelson hits the pin but sees his ball scamper into the back fringe.
1354: Match three of Chris Riley and Stewart Cink against Paul McGinley and Luke Donald is all-square through one hole after a half in fours.

Padraig Harrington holes for a birdie on the short second.
1400: EUROPE WIN HOLE
Love/Campbell v Clarke/Jimenez 1 up after two holes.
Darren Clarke and Miguel Angel Jimenez go one up at the long second. The Spaniard secures a birdie for the hole meaning Clarke can pick up despite an eagle chance.
1411: Colin Montgomerie is in superb form and birdies the fourth hole but Tiger Woods hits back with his own birdie to save the half and stay two down.
1415: EUROPE WIN HOLE
Toms/Furyk v Garcia/Westwood 1 up after one hole.
Spaniard Sergio Garcia birdies the first to put his side one up.
1422: Tiger Woods hits a stunning approach to within a few feet at the fifth and is closely followed by partner Phil Mickelson. Colin Montgomerie tangles with trees on his drive and Padraig Harrington finds the ditch and neither are able to match the Americans' second shots.
1426: EUROPE WIN HOLE
Love/Campbell v Clarke/Jimenez 2 up after four holes.
Europe's Darren Clarke makes a birdie and watches as Chad Campbell is unable to match his putt.
1431: USA WIN HOLE
Woods/Mick'son v M'gomerie/H'ington 1up after five holes.
Tiger Woods birdies the fifth to get back to one down as both European players struggle off the tee, Colin Montgomerie finding trees and Padraig Harrington hitting a monster drive into the ditch.
1434: EUROPE WIN HOLE
Toms/Furyk v Garcia/Westwood 2 up after two holes.
Lee Westwood birdies the second to stretch the European lead.
1442: EUROPE WIN HOLE
Love/Campbell v Clarke/Jimenez 3 up after five holes.
Darren Clarke strokes in a 15-footer at the fifth to grab another birdie and take his side to three up.
1444: EUROPE WIN HOLE
Woods/Mick'son v M'gomerie/H'ington 2 up after six holes.
Europe's Colin Montgomerie finds his touch on the greens and nails another long birdie putt to go back to two up against America's top team.
1449: The home crowd are noticeably quiet as Europe are up in three matches and all-square in the other. It took the Americans 80 minutes to win their first hole as Europe dominated the early action.

Phil Mickelson fires a stunning approach to the seventh and despite Colin Montgomerie's best effort the Americans grab a hole back.

Lee Westwood bags another birdie at the fourth to open up some daylight between himself and partner Sergio Garcia and their opponents.

Padraig Harrington drains a 15-footer on the par-four eighth to take Europe back to two up against the world's number two and four. Behind, 2002 Ryder Cup hero Paul McGinley birdies the sixth to take Europe ahead in all four matches.
1525: The severe greens at Oakland Hills are much in evidence as Colin Montgomerie's inch-perfect bunker shot at the short ninth dribbles back down the putting surface to about 20 feet away.
1529: USA WIN HOLE
Woods/Mick'son v M'gomerie/H'ington 1 up after nine holes.
Tiger Woods pars the ninth and takes the hole as Colin Montgomerie's putt back up the green slips past. Padraig Harrington also misses his par attempt as the Americans narrow the gap at the turn.
1536: Spain's Sergio Garcia slots in another putt to keep his side three ahead after six holes in the last group.
1548: USA WIN HOLE

Paul McGinley misses an eight-footer as Chris Riley makes birdie to get the Americans back to all-square after eight in match three.
1550: All four players in the first group pepper the flag with their approaches on the par-four 10th but an intriguing putting duel develops. They eventually halve the hole.

Love/Campbell v Clarke/Jimenez 4 up after nine holes.
1605: Darren Clarke misses a five-footer at the 10th which would have put him and Miguel Angel Jimenez five up against Davis Love and Chad Campbell.
1608: Padraig Harrington and Colin Montgomerie let slip another half-chance to extend their lead as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson hang on to their coat tails on the 11th green.

Miguel Angel Jimenez sinks another putt as the Europeans take a five-hole lead with seven left.

Europe's Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington recover from wayward drives to pepper the pin with their third shots at the 12th. The Americans also miss the fairway off the tee and cannot match the Europeans, dropping two holes back.
In the last group, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood move to four up at the turn against David Toms and Jim Furyk.
1643: Colin Montgomerie misses a shortish putt on 13 to go three up.

The Americans claw a hole back as Lee Westwood struggles and Sergio Garcia misses his birdie chance.
1656: Darren Clarke and Miguel Angel Jimenez reach dormie five - five up with five to play - with a half at the 13th. In the third group, American Chris Riley misses an eight footer which would have put them ahead for the first time in the match.

Padraig Harrington takes advantage as the Americans both miss the green with their wedges and the Europeans move three clear with four holes to play.
