England's Luke Donald won the European Masters by five shots for his second victory on the European Tour.

Donald, who won the Scandinavian Masters six weeks ago, shot a final-round 66 to finish five ahead of overnight leader Miguel Angel Jimenez.

England's Robert Coles closed with the week's best round, 64, to share third with Sergio Garcia and Eduardo Romero.

Donald was named as one of European captain Bernhard Langer's two wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup last weekend.

"I'm glad I made the decision to come over here and play and rejoin the European Tour, and everything has worked out just perfectly," said Donald, a former American collegiate champion who now shares his time between the United States and Europe.

"This was more than I expected - I knew I had the ability to win two tournaments, but having the ability and doing it are two different things," he added.

Donald, Garcia and Jiminez were the only members of the European Ryder Cup team playing in the tournament - and they finished in the top three places.

Every time I made a bogey I seemed to come back with a birdie

"I hope this justified Bernhard's pick," Donald said.

"It was great all three of us in the Ryder Cup being in the same group. I think that is a strong message to send to the US guys and it is great for European morale."

Donald got off to a fantastic start, holing a 40-foot putt for eagle on the opening hole.

"Sinking the eagle putt at the first got me off to a great start," he said.

"I had some hiccups, a couple of bogeys, but every time I made a bogey I seemed to come back with a birdie. That was the difference."

Jimenez, who won the BMW International a week ago in Munich, was thwarted in his attempt to win for the fifth time this year.

"I didn't play as good as the first three days. The putts didn't go in the hole and it was one of those days," he said.
