The Scot chose Lawrie after Nick Faldo declared himself unavailable.
It remains unclear whether Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke will be competing in November's event.
The Ulsterman is waiting to see if he has qualified for the US Tour's Tour
If he takes part in the American event then Swindon's David Howell may take his place.
