Gale coasts to victory
Terry Gale
Gale maintained his lead throughout the final round
Australia's Terry Gale won his third European Seniors Tour title of the season at the Charles Church Scottish Open.

He closed with a two-under-par 70 to claim a two-shot victory over England's Nick Job and New Zealand's Barry Vivian.

Scotland's Sam Torrance dropped from sixth place into a share of 15th after a two-over-par 74.

"This has been coming for a few weeks now," said Gale.

"I have gone out in the last group for the last three tournaments but on each occasion didn't quite manage to do it.

"Fortunately today was different. I had a great run when I birdied the third, fifth, sixth and eight and was able to relax a bit and enjoy it after that.

"This is probably the toughest field I have won against since I joined the Seniors Tour.

"It's great to see Sam (Torrance) here because it gives the whole tournament a lift. I'm just glad I caught him when he was still a little bit rusty. I'm sure that will change as the weeks go on."

Torrance started the final round five shots behind the Australian.

He made up one shot with a birdie on the second but lost his chance of catching the leader when he hit his tee shot into the water on the par-three fourth.

The Scot also four-putted from 10 feet on the 13th before salvaging some pride with a birdie on the 16th.

"The strange thing is that I didn't play that bad," said the former Ryder Cup captain.

"I got off to a great start when I birdied the second but then gave it back at the fourth and that was about that I'm afraid."
