Rollins takes title
John Rollins
Rollins had never won a USPGA Tour title before

American John Rollins claimed his first USPGA Tour victory on Sunday, winning a three-man play-off at the Canadian Open.

Rollins birdied the first play-off hole to beat Justin Leonard and third-round leader Neal Lancaster to the title.

He said: "I thought it was going to be a tie for second, a great week. But we did one better. It's amazing".

Rollins began the day in a tie for 13th place, but shot a seven-under-par 65 to reach a 16-under total.

Lancaster began the final round with a two-shot lead and maintained it with two birdies and 15 pars over the first 17 holes.

But he collapsed at the 18th, making a double bogey that left him tied with Leonard and Rollins.

Leonard shot a three-under 69 to earn a spot in the play-off after bogeying the final hole of regulation.

In the play-off on the 18th hole, Lancaster repeated his earlier error, pulling his approach shot well wide of the green for another double bogey.

"It wasn't meant to be, I don't guess," Lancaster said. "I don't think I'll ever forget that I blew the Canadian Open on the last hole."

Leonard's long birdie putt rolled three feet past the hole.

Rollins then sank a 15-foot putt for birdie and the victory.

Steve Flesch shot a two-under 70 to tie Australia's Greg Chalmers (71) for fourth place, one stroke off a place in the play-off.

Australia's Geoff Ogilvey (68), New Zealand's Grant Waite (71) and Fiji's Vijay Singh tied for sixth at 274.

Final round scored from Canadian Open (x- won playoff, US unless stated).
