Lancaster and Andrade lead way
Billy Andrade
Andrade won the Canadian Open in 1998

Neal Lancaster carded a second-round 67 to share the lead with Billy Andrade at the Canadian Open on Friday.

Lancaster was tied for the lead at 11-under with Andrade (67), who won the Canadian Open four years ago at Glen Abbey.

Local favourite Ian Leggatt birdied four of his last five holes for the day's low round of 65, leaving him one stroke behind, along with Grant Waite (70).

Leggatt is hoping to become the first Canadian-born winner of his national championship since Karl Keffer in 1914.

"For me to be able to do something special like that would be equal with winning a Masters or a US Open," Leggatt said.

Paraguay's Carlos Franco (68) and former US Open winner Corey Pavin (66) were another stroke back at nine-under-par.

Lancaster opened his round with a bogey, went out in one-under 35 and then finished with a four-birdie back nine.

It the first time in four years that the American has lead after 36 holes.

"One thing about this game, if you play it long enough, you're going to see more disappointment than you're going to see success, unless you're Tiger Woods," he said.

"I've seen a lot of disappointment, so I can pretty much handle anything."

Andrade did his damage on the front nine, stringing three consecutive birdies together from the second to the fourth and going out in a three-under 33.

"I like my position, being right there with Neal," said Andrade, who won this event in 1998.

"When I get myself in this position, I seem to thrive on it. I've gotten myself in this position now. I'm looking forward to the weekend."
