Olympic golf gets mixed reaction
Daly said it was 'about time' golf was included in the Games
Daly is enthusiastic about golf being in the Olympics
Top golfers have given mixed reactions to the news that the sport could become an Olympic discipline by 2008.

John Daly, twice a major championship winner, is delighted golf looks like being included at the Beijing Olympics.

But Australian Craig Parry is less enthusiastic.

Daly said: "I think it would be absolutely awesome. I don't know if I'd ever get to play, though. I guess they'll just have one entry per country.

"But it's about time they let the sport in," added the 36-year-old American who is defending his BMW International Open title in Munich this week.

However Parry - winner of the WGC-NEC Invitational last Sunday - said an Olympic gold would never replace one of golf's four Majors as a top target for most players.

"I don't believe that Tiger Woods would rather have an Olympic gold medal than another major trophy in the cabinet," Parry told Australian (ABC) Radio.

"I think he would have the Major every time," Parry added.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) proposed radical changes to the Summer Games on Thursday.

Plans include excluding baseball, modern pentathlon and softball from the 2008 event and including golf and rugby union sevens.

IOC president Jacques Rogge announced that the ruling executive board would discuss the new proposals at a November meeting in Mexico.

The decision would then go to a vote of all IOC members at a subsequent session in the city.
