Daly and Lickliter shine
John Daly has been in good form all season
John Daly has been in good form all season
The team of John Daly and Frank Lickliter shot an incredible 59 to lead after the second round of the Franklin Templeton Shootout in Florida.

They combined for 13 birdies to move on to 19 under par at 125 - one shot clear of defending champions Brad Faxon and Scott McCarron.

The best-ball game, the formate chosen for the second day, had both players hitting tee shots and then playing the best ball.

Sunday's format is a scramble, which should make for a wild finish.

Eight teams are within eight shots of the lead, a margin that can be made up very quickly in a scramble format.

"That was just a lot of fun," said Daly.

"Nothing went wrong. We made a couple of long putts."

"I left a few shots out there, but I still like our chances in a scramble," said McCarron.

However, the second day belonged solely Daly and Lickliter, who birdied the first four holes and never really relented.

They birdied eight of the first nine and four of the last five.

Ray Floyd and Stewart Cink - a pairing of the oldest and youngest players in the field at 59 and 28, respectively - shot 62 and are at 17-under 127.

Lee Janzen and Joe Durant combined for a 63 to move to 129, four shots off the pace.

They were one in front of the pairing of Peter Jacobsen and Craig Stadler, who shot a 62.

Greg Norman and Australian compatriot Steve Elkington combined for a 67 and are on 135 - 10 shots off the pace.

Second round scores (USA unless stated, Par 72):
