Brad Faxon is hoping to regain his crown
Brad Faxon is hoping to regain his crown in Florida
Defending champions Brad Faxon and Scott McCarron looked in imperious form, recording an eight-under par 64 to lead after the first round of the Franklin Templeton Shootout.

Veteran golfer Ray Floyd and US Ryder Cup team member Stewart Cink were in second place at 65, at the unofficial US PGA Tour event.

Faxon and McCarron won last year's event in a playoff with Scott Hoch and Carlos Franco of Paraguay.

Greg Norman and fellow Australian Steve Elkington are four shots adrift on 68.

The 1998 champions were tied for seventh in the 12-team event that features three formats in as many days.

The $2m (£1.38m) tournament goes to best-ball on Saturday and concludes with Sunday's scramble.

The winners will share $450,000 (£310,000).
