Argentina's Jorge Berendt takes a two-shot lead into the final day at Cannes Mougins after a third-round 67 put him 16 under-par.

Kent's Warren Bennett saw his overnight lead disappear but remains in contention on 14 under.

He shares second place with Norfolk's Andrew Marshall, who finished with three successive birdies.

Berendt, who is looking to become the third Argentine winner on the tour this season, carded four birdies and an eagle.

In contrast Bennett, this season's runner-up in Singapore and Holland, was denied outright second place when he bogeyed the last.

Bennett's troubles were the result of his poor putting display.

"I didn't hole anything all day but at least I didn't put myself out of it.

"Hopefully I can be in there with nine holes to go."

Marshall, who has already secured a card for the main tour next year via his performances on the Challenge Tour, was delighted with his finish.

"I changed my ball and my luck on the 15th tee, before then it had been very frustrating.

"Jorge was running away from me but I kept patient despite missing a few chances and it paid off with a strong finish."

Spain's Ignacio Garrido and Norway's Henrik Bjornstad share fourth place on 13 under-par.

Garrido is benefitting from the wisdom of his father Antonio who partnered Seve Ballesteros to World Cup victory in 1977 and then in the Ryder Cup two years later.

Leading positions after the third round of Cannes Open (GB & Ire unless stated):

16 under - Jorge Berendt (Arg)
14 under - Warren Bennett, Andrew Marshall
13 under - Ignacio Garrido (Spa), Henrik Bjornstad (Nor)
12 under - Santiago Luna (Spa), Jean Van de Velde (Fra), Thomas Levet (Fra)
11 under - Fredrik Andersson (Swe), Matt Blackey), Paul Eales, Raphael Jacquelin (Fra), Van Phillips
