Daly reigns supreme in Munich
John Daly inaction in the final round in Munich
Daly squeezed ahead of Harrington for victory
John Daly clinched a dramatic victory by one shot in the BMW International Open in Munich edging ahead of Padraig Harrington on the final hole.

Both players were neck-and-neck at the 18th and after seeing his opponent play his second shot into the crowd, the American coolly chipped to within 12 inches.

He holed out to the delight of the gallery to claim his first trophy in six years.

France's Thomas Levet battled hard to claim third on 20-under, finishing ahead of Christopher Hannel, Raymond Russell and Dean Robertson on 19-under.

Jose Maria Olazabal
Olazabal's Ryder Cup hopes now rest on a wild card

Daly had impressed for all four days with just three bogeys and his final round of 68 was a 27-under tournament record.

"This was a great day for me. It felt really good and feels good to be in the winner's circle again," Daly said.

"I've worked hard on my short game and to win here is particularly special."

Phillip Price, who missed the halfway cut, guaranteed himself action in the Ryder Cup as Levet and Jose Maria Olazabal failed to make any impression on the leaders.

Olazabal disappointed on the back nine to finish with a round of 70 and can now only hope for a wild card to get into Sam Torrance's Ryder Cup team.

Sergio Garcia, already claiming one of the wild cards, shot 67 to finish on 18-under.

Torrance may have to choose between Olazabal and Jesper Parnevik for the second wild card.
