Janzen moves ahead
Lee Janzen, leader at the International
Janzen is making a recovery from health problems
Lee Janzen made a successful return to action with an eight-under-par 64 to snatch the lead in an unfinished opening round at the International in Colorado.

Six birdies and an eagle took Janzen to 17 points using the modified Stableford format at the Castle Pines course.

The 36-year-old two-time former U.S. Open champion leads fellow American Chris Riley by one point, with 42 players yet to finish their first round after weather delays.

I don't know how long I had not felt 100 percent, but it definitely affected my concentration over the last few tournaments

Janzen has recently been diagnosed as lactose intolerant, a problem which forced his withdrawal from the Open.

"I was not feeling 100 percent, although I felt good enough to still play," he said.

"I went to a doctor and he did a full physical. It was a combination of the dairy (products) and sugar. I needed to lay off the things I was eating and detox for a while.

"I don't know how long I had not felt 100 percent, but it definitely affected my concentration over the last few tournaments.

"The way I'm eating right now, I don't think anybody could eat like that for very long. I could not believe all the things that have sugar.

"I was devastated when told I couldn't have any ice cream."

David Duval, in his first official event since winning the Open, compiled 11 points, as did world number two Phil Mickelson.

"I made a few mistakes from being a little mentally tired," Duval said.
