Middlesbrough could play in front of the smartest ever football crowd after tickets for Thursday's Uefa Cup match with Banik Ostrava called for "jackets and ties".

Hundreds of tickets were sent out stating: "It is a condition of entry that gentlemen wear a jacket, collar and tie. Jeans, tracksuits and trainers are not permitted".

The club have assured fans there is no dress code at the Riverside but the supporters are intent on turning on the style.

Rob Nichols, editor of Boro fanzine Fly Me to the Moon, told the Daily Mirror: "It's right that the club put on a good show.

"I shall give my best shoes a buffing and consider hiring a dickie bow and dinner suit."
