1917: The National Hockey League (NHL) is formed in Montreal.

1922: St Albans' Billy Minter scores seven goals in an FA Cup tie against Dulwich but ends up on the losing side as the match ends 8-7.

1930: Clapton Orient play Brentford in one of only two Football League matches in history to be played at Wembley.

1986: Mike Tyson becomes the youngest world heavyweight boxing champion when he beats Trevor Berbick at the age of 20 years and six months.

2001: Crystal Palace win a temporary High Court injunction preventing manager Steve Bruce from leaving without serving nine months' notice.
