2001: Derby sign Francois Grenet from Bordeaux for 3m.

1998: The Football Association fine Paul Ince for his V-sign after being sent off in England's 2-1 European Championship qualifier defeat against Sweden.

1930: Sports promoter Mark McCormack is born. He goes on to found and head the International Management Group, which becomes the biggest company of its type in the world.

McCormack's first client was American golfer Arnold Palmer, an old school friend.
