From Arsenal to Texas

So Thierry Henry is not in hot water for having a message on his vest. Big deal.

It was hardly the crime of the century - unless you happen to be a member of the fashion police.

What is more interesting is the message itself - and the person it was aimed at.

"For the new born Kyd" was not, it transpired, some advert for trendy baby clothes complete with the latest in trendy spellings.

Thierry Henry
Here's looking at yer Kyd

In fact it was a congratulatory message for Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri on the birth of her child, Misty Kyd.

Although with a name like that, Poor Kid, would be more appropriate.

But the pressing question is, how on earth did Thierry get to know Sharleen in the first place?

It's hardly the most likely of liaisons - the Scots girl next door and the Frenchman with the va-va-voom - but we at BBC Sport Online think we have found the answer.

Henry-Spiteri in five easy steps:

Step 1: Number 14:
The number on Thierry Henry's prized Arsenal shirt and the number of years since the Crazy Gang of Wimbledon lifted the FA Cup.

Step 2: Vinnie Jones - one of the Dons' stalwarts on that famous afternoon against Liverpool.

Has since gone on to become a Hollywood actor, starring in films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch.

Step 3: The latter saw Jones line up against none other other than Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt
Well howdy there, JR.

Step 4: Now it's a little-known fact, but Brad began his fledgling career as the suitor of Bobby Ewing's step-daughter in popular 80s TV series Dallas

Step 5: Dallas is a city in Texas - and, hey presto, Ms Spiteri is the lead singer in said band.

So there you have it. Colombo would have been proud.

How would you get from Henry to Spiteri? Have your say
