On this day in history
1957: Jimmy Greaves scored on his Chelsea debut against Tottenham.

1987: Denise Annetts of Australia scored a women's record 193 in a Test against England at Collingham, West Yorkshire.

1999: Alan Shearer was dropped to the substitutes' bench for Newcastle's home game against Sunderland.

The Magpies lost 2-1, and manager Ruud Gullit was sacked three days later.

2001: Liverpool beat Bayern Munich 3-2 in Monaco to win the European Super Cup, their fifth trophy in six months.
