Why I love...Rod Stewart
Alan Curbishley is a big fan of Rod Stewart
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley reflects on the time he used to travel around the country to see Rod Stewart and the Small Faces.

He also recalled more of his favourite music and other artistes on BBC Radio Five Live's Wright and Bright show.

It's difficult to choose my all-time favourite, but Rod Stewart is the man. I know he would have loved to be Denis Law or Kenny Dalglish.

But I can assure you there are a lot more footballers who would have swapped places with Rod Stewart.

I'm going to pick Maggie May, it's one of those records that gets everyone singing.

Another record I remember when I was playing, obviously a long while ago, is Turn It On Again by Genesis.

At the time I was at Birmingham and I was a great Genesis fan.

Turn It On Again was played as loud as it could go while I was on the way to St Andrews. It reminds me of my playing days there.

Another one from the archives is My Generation by The Who.

Before the game I have to listen to the players' choice of music on match days - Craig David etc.

But they all run out at 20 past two to get warmed up, and I get a chance to turn it off.

When you hear the first chords of My Generation, it sends the crowd crazy. It's another favourite of mine.

After a match I like to chill out to Let's Get It on by Marvin Gaye.

It reminds me of my early days at West Ham, when I was in the first team at 17-18 years-old, and driving around in a Ford Escort with an eight-track.

There are so many great Christmas songs. But the one for me is Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade.
