Sven Goran Eriksson looks like losing out to Michael Jackson in the battle to be UK number one.

Midweek figures suggest Jacko's new song You Rock My World is on course to KO Bell & Spurling's Sven Sven Sven.

The latter was tipped for the top on the back of England's dramatic qualification for the World Cup, but co-writer Martin Bell told BBC Sport Online he was not too disheartened.

"Let's face it, we're competing with the likes of Michael Jackson, Usher and Linkin Park, whose songs were released with huge pre-orders.

David Beckham
Thank you, thank you!
"We had the highest new entry last week (No 7) and although we've slipped back a bit, there's only 2,000 copies between five and 11 so we're hoping to move back up again.

"Whatever happens, if we could stay in the top 10 for two weeks running that would be a great achievement."

And what about England's nervy 2-2 draw with Greece on Saturday which ensured qualification?

"The England game was amazing, incredible," enthused Bell.

"Me and Johnny (Spurling ) were sitting behind Beckham's mum and dad and all the way through, Johnny kept shouting 'Bring Teddy Sheringham on'.

Becks' mum was laughing and telling him to be quiet - then Ted comes on and scores with his first touch!

"When Beckham scored the winner I jumped on his dad's shoulders and grabbed him round the neck - I only got off when I realised I might break it!

"Becks came in the bar afterwards with a big smile on his face - all I could say was 'Thank you, thank you'!"

Bell and Spurling were particularly looking forward to hearing their song played at Old Trafford, but things didn't quite work out.

"They played our song twice - and we missed it both times!" explained Bell.

"First of all it went on at half-time, but we were so depressed with England's performance we went to the bar to try and lift ourselves for the second half.

Teddy Sheringham
Teddy's wanted for Top of the Pops
"We came out just in time to hear the last few notes.

"After the match we had to do some interviews and missed it again!"

The duo's memorable week ends with a performance on BBC1's Top of the Pops, where they will be surrounded by scantily-clad women and, possibly, Teddy Sheringham!

"He's a mate of ours and I've asked him to come along, but he's not so sure." laughed Bell.

"It's mad to think we'll be on Top of the Pops with the likes of Kylie," he added.

"It makes you laugh when you think Jacko's video cost $3m to make - it only took us 20 minutes to record the whole song!"
