1983: Lancashire's Steve O'Shaughnessy scored 100 runs in 35 minutes against Leicestershire at Old Trafford - one of the fastest centuries ever seen in first-class cricket. 1970: Margaret Court of Australia beat Rosemary Casals in three sets to win the US Open at Forest Hills and become only the second woman after Maureen Connolly to complete the Grand Slam of all four major tennis championships. 1845: The world's first baseball club, the Knickerbocker Club of New York, was formed.
