2000: Britain's Tim Henman beats Frenchman Fabrice Santoro 6-1 6-4 in
quarter-finals of ATP Masters Series tournament in Cincinnati.
1991: A crowd of 33,000 turns out at Old Trafford for former Manchester United manager Sir Matt Busby's testimonial. A 1-1 draw between United and a Republic of Ireland X1 raised £250,000 for the man who turned the Red Devils into a major footballing force. 1991: John Daly comes from nowhere to win the US PGA title at the Crooked Stick course in Indiana, having been a tour rookie and ninth reserve for the tournament. 1950: Les Ames became the first wicketkeeper to score 100 centuries in first-class cricket, hitting 131 for Kent against Middlesex at Canterbury. |
