Manx team make instant impression on Games' medal table

Women's cycling team
The Isle of Man's team of Alison Clague, Laura Wasley and Mary Mason won silver in the criterium race

The Isle of Man team finished the opening day of the Island Games with three gold medals.

The women's half-marathon team claimed the island's first gold after both Kevin Loundes and the men's half-marathon team won silver.

The Manx men's cycling team then added to the tally with a gold in the criterium race in Ventnor.

Shooting duo David Clague and Danny Shacklock claimed the gold in the Olympic Skeet.

Shooters Glenn Catlin and Peter Kelly added a bronze in the Automatic Ball Trap event.

Female cyclist Laura Wasley won individual silver and doubled up as the women's team claimed silver in the criterium.

Both the Isle of Man's football teams also won their opening fixtures.

The men came from 2-1 down to beat Gotland 4-2 and the women thrashed Gibraltar 9-0.
