Dundee Utd v Rangers called off but Newcastle play on

A snow-bound football pitch
Football and racing has been affected in England and Scotland

Sunday's Scottish Premier League games between Dundee United and Rangers and Motherwell and Hearts fell victim to the cold weather on Sunday.

But Newcastle's Premier League game with Chelsea survived and the Ireland rugby union match against Argentina goes ahead after a pitch inspection.

Weekend race meetings at Newcastle, Carlisle, Fairyhouse, Towcester all fell victim to the wintry conditions.

Monday's card at Ffos Las and Tuesday's meeting at Hereford are also off.

Southwell has abandoned its planned jump racing card on Tuesday and will instead stage an all-weather Flat fixture.

On Saturday several Scottish Cup ties were called off as well as Sunday's Alba Cup final between Queen of the South and Ross County.

Saturday's FA Cup tie between Hartlepool and Yeovil was cancelled along with several non-league football matches in England.
