BBC Sport writer Tom Fordyce has won the Best Live Blog award at the Sports Journalists Association for his work at the World Athletics Championships. He was praised for "conveying the wonder of Usain Bolt's record-breaking feat" in the sprints and for the way he "got up close to the action" in Berlin. Cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew won radio broadcaster of the year and Test Match Special best radio show. The BBC's Formula 1 coverage was short-listed in three categories. These F1 nominations for the BBC coverage included
Andrew Benson
(best internet writer),
Jake Humphrey
(presenter) and best television programme. Former England cricket captain
Michael Atherton
proved he has made a successful transition from the pitch to the world of media after winning the Sports Writer of the Year for his work with the Times. Fordyce, who started writing for the BBC in 2000, was in Germany for the World Championships last year and was in the Olympic stadium when Jamaican Bolt smashed two world records on his way to gold in the 100m and 200m.
BBC director of sport Barbara Slater said: "Blogs have become an increasingly important part of BBC Sport's major event coverage, with the internet now bringing our audience even closer to the action. "There is no finer exponent of the craft than Tom Fordyce." On the double award for the BBC's cricket coverage, whose team is led by producer Adam Mountford, Slater added: "Test Match Special is 'must-listen radio'. "Last summer TMS perfectly captured the drama of a wonderful climax to the Ashes series, led superbly by our cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew." Two runner-ups from the BBC included John Inverdale in the Radio Broadcaster category, while Clare Balding just missed out on the TV Broadcaster award.
