Foxes to compete for BBC awards

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson is in the running for two awards

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson will go head-to-head with Foxes' top scorer Matty Fryatt at the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards 2009.

The pair will compete against Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies for the Football Achievement Award.

Runner Richard Whitehead will compete with paralympic swimmer Sam Hynd and equestrian champion Sophie Wells for Disabled Sportsperson of the Year.

The awards will be presented at Loughborough University on 3 December.

The honours will be presented by BBC television and radio sports presenter John Inverdale.

The nominations for the BBC East Midlands Sports Personality of the Year, BBC Unsung Hero and BBC Power of Sport Award supported by Sport England will be announced later in November.

Mansfield's Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington scooped the region's Sports Personality of the Year gong last year after winning double gold in the pool at the Beijing Games to rewrite the history books.

She also finished third in the main BBC Sports Personality of the Year award behind winner Sir Chris Hoy and then Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.
