Back-rower Joe Bearman has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at Newport Gwent Dragons until 2010.

Bearman, 28, has become a popular figure at Rodney Parade since his move from Cornish Pirates in 2005.

Having just recovered from a hernia operation, he hopes to return in the Dragons' next game against Ulster in Ravenhill on 15 February (1930 GMT).

"Since arriving at the Dragons I've enjoyed my rugby and enjoyed Wales and instantly made it my home," he said.

He's been one of our players of the season

"Not only is it a great team to be a part of, it's one with a vision going into the new stadium in the next three years.

"The future looks good. I'm proud to be part of the region and excited about my time here."

Head coach Paul Turner added: "As we expected, Joe has been outstanding for the region.

"He can play all over the back row and it's even been mentioned to him that he could play on the wing.

"He's been tremendous and thoroughly deserved the Magners recognition he received over the New Year period.

"In fact, he's been one of our players of the season and we're thrilled that he's signed to stay another two years and showed his faith in the region."
