Fletcher lands top coaching award

Fletcher's England team have bounced back in 2004

Duncan Fletcher has been inducted into Britain's Coaching Hall of Fame.

The 56-year-old was recognised for his role in fostering England's revival as a force in world cricket.

Following the success of their athletes at the Olympics, male and female Coach of the Year awards went to Simon Jones (cycling) and Lindsey Fraser (diving).

Meanwhile rowing's Jurgen Grobler, who helped nurture sporting legends Sir Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent, got a lifetime achievement award.

Other coaches honoured on Thursday included Terry Edwards, for his work with 17-year-old boxing sensation Amir Khan.

"This is the highlight of my career and there have been a few, including Audley Harrison's gold medal at the Sydney Olympics," Edwards told BBC Sport.

"It is personal recognition for the work I've put in."

Fletcher was also delighted by the recognition.

"I am very honoured," he said.

"It has been a great year for the England team and I would really like to thank all the players and the management team for their contributions."
