Ideal Start to 2010

Your Game matches community groups working with 16-25 year-olds to funding, training and employment opportunities. It does this through community festivals and year round support.

Former Northern Ireland footballer and YG All-Star Louise Irvine has made the perfect start to 2010 - she has a new job. Louise is now the Coaching & Administration Officer for Castlereagh Borough Council.

Thanks to funds from the Big Lottery Louise is working on the C-SAW project which stands for 'Castlereagh - Safe and Well.'

C-SAW aims to improve the physical and mental health of locals and build a stronger, healthier community. It will promote physical activity, offer dietary advice and safety programmes.

'We're running a 'Cook It' programme which will be teamed up with physical activity sessions so we can provide a balanced approach to health and wellbeing. We want to make sure people understand the importance of what they eat as well as the exercise they take.

We're also offering First Aid and Home Safety advice so there's a lot going on and I'm really busy but that's the way I like it."

The C-SAW project works with people of all ages. For the first time Louise has been helping pensioners try different activities such as new age kurling, dancing, armchair aerobics and yoga.

It also offers people with disabilities the chance to work on improving their balance, strength and general wellbeing.

Louise explains "I am really enjoying some new challenges is this role. Most of my experience in coaching has been with children and young people. This allows me to work with a wider range of people and I'm finding it really rewarding."
