HFC dominate in East London

HFC celebrate winning the women's Your Game competition
HFC only conceded one goal during the whole tournament

A hat-trick from striker Carry-Ann helped HFC to a commanding 6-0 victory over Bethwin A to claim the women's trophy at Your Game East London.

HFC, representing a Kick it Out initative in Hackney, produced a string of scintillating performances at the Leyton Orient Community Complex to stake their claim as potential champions at the national finals next month.

HFC had only conceded one goal on their way to the final, which they dominated from the first whistle.

Star player Sarah added two goals, one a superb finish from a mazy dribble while Jade added the other goal courtesy of a powerful long range strike.

Coco United did not enjoy as smooth a ride in the men's final as they were pushed all the way by a determined performance from Urban Renaissance.

Goals from Evan and Sergio gave Coco, an all-Portuguese outfit representing the Foyer Foundation from Stratford, an early 2-0 lead.

But star man and Renaissance captain Aiman cut the lead to one goal after a crisp finish, setting up a tense finish in the final few minutes.

And Coco had giant goalkeeper Nando to thank after producing two super saves to deny Renaissance, a People of Westminster project addressing anti-social issues effecting young people.

Both Coco and HFC will be joined at the national finals by Brent Ladies and Lotus Sports Club, who were named Fair Play winners for their excellent sporting conduct.

The standard of football throughout the day impressed special guests and former England internationals Chris Powell and Luther Blissett.

"Among the players we've seen here, there is a player who has the potential to make it in the Football League or maybe even the Premiership," said former Watford and AC Milan striker Blissett.

"The only thing that will stop them will be the mental application in their heads. Events like this will help inspire them to reach the very top."

Powell said: "These kinds of projects are very important, they encourage young people to get involved in team sports and understand the numerous benefits they can bring."

There were more trophies for HFC star player Sarah Cleary, who walked away with the Five Live Most Valuable Player award for her incredible skills throughout the day.

And she also collected the "Hardest Kick" trophy for her whopping 58mph shot, while NACRO SQ's Sonny picked up the men's trophy after smashing a 76mph thunderbolt.

Entertainment throughout the day was provided by 1Xtra DJs L Double and Cameo, with live acts from MCs Black Twang and Detter-X and beatbox Rashad, who amazed with his array of incredible sounds.

Black Twang and Detter-X could have serious competition from MC Smiler, who walked off with the 1Xtra Best DJ award.

And Andrew Pontiss impressed Five Live commentators David Oates and Jacqui Oatley enough to take the Best Commentator award.
