Mansfield 1-3 Southampton (Agg: 1-5)

Trond Soltvedt scored twice for Saints
Southampton safely negotiated their second-leg tie at Third Division Mansfield to ease into round three.

The Premiership club led 2-0 from the first leg and killed off any possible fightback with first-half goals from Uwe Rosler on 32 minutes and Trond Soltvedt on 44 minutes.

Rosler netted at the near post from Jason Dodds' cross, while it was third time lucky for Soltvedt after his first shot hit the bar and Rosler had the follow-up cleared off the line before the ball rolled back to Soltvedt.

Darrell Clarke did pull one back for Mansfield with a 55th-minute deflected volley.

But Soltvedt struck again on 65 after good work from Chris Marsden and Matt Le Tissier.

Rosler also had an effort disallowed for offside and forced keeper Bobby Mimms into a great save.

Mansfield: Mimms, Robinson, Hicks, Asher, Williams, Andrews, Blake, Clarke, Corden, Boulding, Greenacre. Subs: Pilkington, Bacon, Disley, Hassell, Williamson. Southampton: Jones, Dodd, Marsden, Richards, Le Tissier, Oakley, Rosler, El Khalej, Soltvedt, Ashford, Bleidelis. Subs: Lundekvam, Beattie, Pahars, Bridge, Moss. Referee: A Bates (Stoke on Trent)
