Last-gasp Watford through
Helguson scored a late winner
E-mail your reaction to Football Talk An extra-time winner from Watford substitute Heidar Helguson took the Hornets storming into the last eight after a dramatic finale. Midfielder John Robinson had stolen in unnoticed to head in Claus Jensen's floated ball with the last touch of the normal 90 minutes. But it was not enough to prevent the Addicks from another early exit from a cup competition in which they have failed to reach the last eight in 41 years of trying. Defender Steve Brown had cancelled out Paulo Vernazza's 17th-minute opener for Watford before half-time. Wing-back Paul Robinson appeared to have sealed victory for the Hornets with a clinically-taken goal on the hour. Leading scorer Tommy Smith then wasted a glorious chance to put the match beyond Charlton when his tame penalty 10 minutes from time was saved by Dean Kiely.
Watford: Chamberlain, Doyley, Cox, Vega, Robinson, Hyde, Issa,
Vernazza, Noel-Williams, Smith, Gayle.
Charlton: Kiely, Young, Brown, Todd, Powell, Stuart, Parker, Jensen, Robinson, Johansson, Bartlett. Referee: N Barry (Scunthorpe)
