Five-star Fulham thrash Derby
Fulham players celebrate Malbranque's goal
Malbranque is congratulated by his team-mates
Fulham 5-2 Derby

Fulham scored five goals from five different sources as new Derby manager Colin Todd was shown no mercy in his first match in charge.

Jean Tigana's side stunned County with four goals in a sensational 25-minute spell to ease to victory in the Worthington Cup third-round tie.

Barry Hayles hauled Fulham back onto level terms after Craig Burley had given Derby a shock first-half lead.

We have a lack of mental toughness - there's a little bit of an Achilles heel there

But Derby fought back and Fabrizio Ravanelli put the visitors 2-1 up after 54 minutes.

But therafter the home side assumed full control.

Sylvain Legwinski headed an equaliser and a John Collins free-kick put the home side ahead.

Fulham's fourth was scored by substitute Louis Saha.

He had replace Steve Marlet, who has yet to score a goal in England since his arrival at Fulham.

Saha sliced through the heart of Derby's midfield and defence in the 71st minute.

He let rip 18 yards from goal to beat Oakes with a confident low shot.

Derby's misery was compounded by another substitute Steed Malbranque.

He converted a spot-kick to wrap up a comprehensive victory.

The only negative part of an enthralling encounter was a confrontation involving 18 players - sparked by a bust-up between Legwinski and Darryl Powell.

Fulham: Taylor, Finnan, Brevett, Melville, Knight, Legwinski, Collins, Clark, Davis, Marlet, Hayles. Subs: Van der Sar, Malbranque, Goldbaek, Saha, Boa Morte.

Derby: Oakes, Riggott, Powell, Burley, Johnson, Higginbotham, Mawene, Murray, Daino, Burton, Ravanelli. Subs: Christie, Elliott, Boertien, Valakari, Grant.

Referee: G Barber
