Player Profile
The son of US national coach Bob has overcome the inevitable accusations of nepotism to become a vital member of the team.
Bradley anchors the midfield but admits he “can’t afford to be one-dimensional.” Five goals in World Cup qualifying and a 16-goal haul in the Dutch top flight in 2007/08 are testament to the fact he isn’t.
Bradley was a mainstay of the Mönchengladbach midfield for the second season running in 2009/10.
He turned professional at 16 with MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls), who were coached at the time by his father. In 2006 he became the youngest MLS player to be transferred abroad when he joined Dutch side Heerenveen.
He made his USA debut a few weeks before the 2006 World Cup but was left out of the squad for the tournament. His first start came in March 2007 in a friendly against Guatemala.
He is renowned for being obsessive in working on his weaknesses, one of which is his temper.
His red card against Spain in the Confederations Cup last June was followed by an altercation in the tunnel with referee Jorge Larrionda and resulted in a four-match ban.
