Player Profile
Hahneman joined Wolves last summer as understudy to Welshman Wayne Hennessey, but forced his way into the side in November and started the last 25 league matches.
He was hailed by Wolves boss Mick McCarthy as having made “a huge impact” in the club’s Premier League survival.
Hahnemann holds the distinction of the longest gap between appearances for the USA, with a period of eight years, five months and 28 days spanning his third and fourth caps in 1994 and 2003.
He was in the squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where his parents were born, but did not play. He relaxed before this World Cup by going on a fishing trip back home in Seattle.
He often undertakes a 10-mile round trip to training on his mountain bike, but helicopters were his first love and he wanted to join the Marines as a pilot after leaving high school.
Told he was too young, he instead accepted a football scholarship and played for Seattle Sounders and MLS side Colorado Rapids before moving to England with Fulham in 1999.
After a brief loan spell at Rochdale he spent seven years at Reading, amassing 276 league appearances for the club. He still has 18 screws and two plates in his hand after breaking it in 2006.
Hahnemann psyches himself up before games by listening to heavy metal bands, and lists Five Finger Death Punch among his favourites. He took his two children to see Metallica when they were nine and seven. His favourite pastimes include deer stalking and working on his fleet of cars.
