Player profile

The lanky 6ft 4in striker is Uruguay’s super-sub and came off the bench to head the all-important goal at home to Costa Rica that secured qualification.

The 33-year-old has played for 17 clubs in seven countries. His first professional club was Defensor Sporting in his homeland and a nomadic career has also taken him to Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Israel and Greece.

He started the 2009/10 season at Aris Thessaloniki in the Greek Super League before moving on to Brazilian club Botafogo in January.
