Player profile

The Defensor Sporting keeper won his only cap in a friendly against Algeria in August and is very much third-choice behind Muslera and Castillo. He represented Uruguay at the Under-17 World Cup finals in New Zealand in 1999 and also featured for the Under-20 side.

Silva began his professional career with Montevideo-based Defensor in 2002, but spent his first few seasons at the club as back-up to international team-mate Juan Castillo.

It wasn’t until the 2006/07 season, when Castillo left for Penarol, that Silva claimed the number one spot as his own. He has made 148 Primera Division appearances for the club, winning the league title in 2007/08.
