Player profile

Suarez heads to South Africa after a stunning individual season at Ajax, netting 49 goals in 48 games as the Amsterdam club won the Dutch Cup and finished second in the league. The prolific 23-year-old has lots of pace and likes to attack from deep positions or out wide.

Suarez began his club career with Montevideo-based Nacional in 2005 and won the league title at the end of his first season. Dutch club Groningen brought him to Holland in 2006, where 10 goals in 29 league appearances convinced Ajax to shell out €7.5m to bring him to Amsterdam.

He is club captain at Ajax and has scored a phenomenal 74 goals in 97 league appearances for the club. The £25m-rated striker has been linked to a host of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, and is expected to leave Ajax following the World Cup.
