Player Profile
The central defender’s first international goal against Greece last year was one of the most important of Switzerland’s qualifying campaign. His 83rd minute header put the Swiss on the way to a 2-0 win against their nearest challengers and took them a step closer to winning the group.
His qualifying campaign for this World Cup was happier than his last one. In November 2005 he was the biggest casualty of the post-match brawl which marred Switzerland's World Cup play-off against Turkey in Istanbul. He was taken to hospital after being kicked in the groin, and sidelined for a month.
He joined Auxerre in 2002 from Swiss outfit Sion and has made 195 league appearances in France.
