The 6ft 5in target man has enjoyed his most prolific season yet, scoring 23 goals in all competitions to eclipse his previous year’s tally of 18.
Strong, powerful in the air and technically gifted, Llorente has also added aggression to silence his critics - in the past he has admitted to days when he was “apathetic on the pitch”.
When he was first called into the Spain squad, for a friendly against Chile in November 2008, newspapers and internet message boards speculated whether the Spanish FA had accidentally called up the wrong man – Llorente had only scored 14 league goals in three full seasons.
He scored his first senior goal for Spain with a header against England in February last year and has also played for the Basque national side.
Despite what Liverpool supporters might think, there isn’t only one Fernando Torres - Llorente’s full name is Fernando Javier Llorente Torres.
