Born in Soweto, left-winger Tshabalala received a national team call-up just eight months into his professional football career and was South Africa’s best performer at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations.
He was sidelined for six months in 2007 with a serious knee injury but bounced back to score a stoppage-time winner from outside the penalty area against Norway in a friendly last year - South Africa’s first success over European opposition in seven years.
The speedy winger is a product of Kaizer Chiefs’ youth development programmes, but began his senior career at Free State Stars before returning to the Chiefs’ ranks in 2007.
He has scored 17 goals in 85 games during his three years at the club. He recently denied quotes attributed to him claiming he wanted to quit Kaizer Chiefs for a big-money move to Europe after the World Cup.
